Franchise Disability Insurance

[Franchise Disability Insurance]All members of the Association who are under age 60 and actively in practice are eligible to apply for this insurance.

Features & Highlights

  • Simplified underwriting - up to $3,000 sickness and accident monthly benefits under age 60. No medical exams, blood work, tax returns or other underwriting tests unless required because of medical history. Policy issuance and benefit payments may depend upon the answers given in your application and the truthfulness of those answers.

  • Your "own occupation" definition of disability for the first five years. Total Disability means you are unable to perform the substantial and material duties of your occupation and are receiving regular medical care from a physician.

  • Partial (residual) disability benefits payable after a 20% income loss. Residual Disability means you are unable to perform one or more of the substantial and material duties of your occupation, or for as much time as is normally required to perform those duties, and you suffer a 20% or greater income loss.

  • Step rate (pay-as-you-go) premiums.

  • Ability to insure up to 70% of your income, $10,000 monthly benefit maximum. (Subject to issue limits.)

  • No offsets for Social Security or other insurance coverages.

  • Choice of waiting periods: 30, 60, 90 or 180 days.

  • Optional benefit riders - Purchase Option and Cost of Living Adjustment.

Exclusions and Limitations

American General Assurance will not cover any loss or disability caused or contributed to by:

  • Suicide or attempted suicide, while sane or insane (in Missouri, while sane);

  • Intentionally self-inflicted injury;

  • War or any act of war whether declared or undeclared;

  • Service in the armed forces of any country or authority (in such event the pro rata unearned premium will be returned to You);

  • Traveling in or flying any aircraft operated by or under the direction of any military
    (land, sea, or air) authority or while in any aircraft being used for any test or experimental
    purpose;

  • Participation in the commission or attempted commission of a felony.

You shall not be entitled to benefits for two periods of disability at one and the same time.
In addition, no benefits shall be payable for any period of Total Disability during which You
are confined in a penal or correctional institution.

The maximum benefit you may apply for is:

  • Under Age 50---$10,000 per month
  • Age 50 to 54---$6,000 per month
  • Age 55 to 59---$3,000 per month

Accident and Sickness Benefits For Total Disability Are Payable:

  • To age 65 for disabilities which begin on or after age 60 but before age 63.
  • For two years for disabilities which begin on or after age 63.
  • Monthly benefits in excess of $2,200 are reduced to $2,200 upon attainment of age 65 if not disabled.
  • Coverage terminates upon attainment of age 70.
  • Rates for ages 60-69 for renewable purposes only.
  • Residual Disability Benefit terminates upon attainment of age 65.
